In an industry where presentations often feel dry and clinical, paying attention in long virtual meetings can be a challenge. Sanofi asked our team to plan a highly engaging, interactive, and out-of-the box Virtual Investigator Meeting (VIM) for their clinical trial.

Our goal was to inspire attendees to actively participate in the virtual meeting, despite the endless distractions they face.

We proposed a hype video to grab attention with an unexpected creative hook to set the tone for the rest of the event.

I had the pleasure of producing, directing, and animating this project, working alongside a talented team of illustrators and designers to bring this vision to life.

Discovery & Ideation

From the initial brief, we knew we needed to incorporate the idea of ignoring distractions, like emails, message alerts, and social media, in order to promote active participation in the meeting.

The clinical trial being discussed was a long term pediatric study on eczema, so we wanted the video to be childlike, playful, and adventurous.

That tone led us to the idea of a video game concept where the subject, a healthcare provider, had to fight off distractions in order to gather all of the information they can while attending this meeting.

Collaborating with a Medical & Behavioral Strategist, we pinpointed the top five motivations driving healthcare providers to engage in clinical trials. The video weaves these motivations into its narrative, emphasizing how active participation in that meeting can help investigators achieve their larger goals.

After storyboarding, we created the high-fidelity illustrations and prepared them for animation.

Results

Sanofi has returned to our team to plan their investigator meetings for the following three years since the original video creation and plan to continue for the duration of the study.

We turned the original video into a reusable asset template that has been used in six more investigator meetings for various clients since.

After completion of the video, we reused many of the assets to create a range of other deliverables, including a PowerPoint slide template geared toward team building workshops.

Going Further

When I had some extra time, I used the Quest for Study Success concept to create a basic mini game in Adobe Aero. We didn’t use the game for anything, but it was a fun exploration into pushing the bounds of animated content and AR experiences.
